Marine Biological Association (MBA) Honorary Member Sir David Attenborough was joined by our Royal Patron, His Majesty King Charles III, at the world premiere of Ocean with David Attenborough in London on 6 May.
Set to release in cinemas worldwide on Thursday 8 May, Ocean is a breathtaking cinematic journey beneath the waves. The film serves as a vital reminder that there is nowhere more important for our planet’s future, more full of life, or more in need of protection, than the ocean.

His Majesty became the MBA’s fifth Royal Patron in 2024, marking a significant recognition of our world-leading role in advancing marine science, protecting ocean biodiversity, and inspiring a global movement for marine conservation.
The Marine Biological Association made a crucial scientific contribution to Ocean with David Attenborough, working closely with the acclaimed Silverback Films team to ensure the documentary reflects the science and wonder of marine life and its unique challenges and opportunities.
MBA Senior Research Fellow Dr Bryce Stewart, who played a key role in the making of Ocean, also attended the premiere at the Royal Festival Hall.
“It was an absolute honour to attend. I am incredibly proud to have contributed to the film, alongside the crew of the MBA’s research vessel, Sepia. The film is stunningly beautiful, while also confronting – but ends with a message of hope for how we can create a better future for our ocean.”
Now, we invite you to join this global movement to protect the ocean, with a special limited time discount to celebrate the film and the Patronage of HM King Charles III.
