We’re delighted to share that an eye-catching cover of The Marine Biologist magazine has been shortlisted for Cover of the Year at the PPA Independent Publisher Awards 2026.
The cover, featured on our April issue, captures a close-up of the eye of an albatross, reflecting the edition’s examination of how we connect with the ocean and the importance of observing and understanding our changing seas.
“We wanted a cover that was visually simple and striking, but which conveyed the idea of observing and understanding the ocean – something that is increasingly important as our seas change more rapidly. This image of the eye of an albatross did the job beautifully, capturing a sense of intimacy with the bird,” explains TMB Editor Guy Baker.
The PPA Independent Publisher Awards celebrate the creativity, innovation and outstanding work of independent publishers across the UK.
“We are honoured to be recognised alongside so many outstanding publishers and wish all shortlisted entrants the best of luck!” adds Guy.
If you love our cover, you can vote for it here. Voting is open until 23 October. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 27 November 2026.
