Welcoming Dr. Martin Stelfox as Fellow of the MBA

Dr. Martin Stelfox

The MBA is proud to welcome Dr. Martin Stelfox as a new Fellow of the Marine Biological Association (FMBA).

Dr Stelfoxis a marine biologist, conservation leader, and founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Olive Ridley Project (ORP), an international conservation charity dedicated to protecting sea turtles and their habitats. Over the past two decades, he has built a distinguished international career in marine biodiversity research, conservation practice, and organisational leadership.

Dr. Stelfox’s work has focused on advancing the conservation of threatened marine species through science-based research, strategic partnerships, and community engagement. His expertise encompasses marine ecology, sea turtle conservation, fisheries interactions, coral reef ecosystems, environmental management, and the development of innovative approaches to addressing complex conservation challenges. In addition to leading ORP’s international programmes, he serves as a member of the IUCN SSC Marine Turtle Specialist Group, contributing scientific expertise to regional and global initiatives aimed at safeguarding marine turtle populations.

As a FMBA, Dr. Stelfox looks forward to contributing his experience in applied marine conservation, organisational leadership, and international collaboration to the Fellowship community. He hopes to support greater integration between research and conservation practice, share insights gained from building and leading a global conservation organisation, and contribute to discussions that advance the protection of marine biodiversity.

Through the Fellowship, Dr. Stelfox also looks forward to connecting with fellow marine scientists, fostering new collaborations, and sharing knowledge to support effective marine conservation.

Fellowship of the Marine Biological Association is an important mark of professional recognition, recognising distinguished and sustained contributions to marine biology and signalling a strong commitment to advancing the field. The bestowing of a Fellowship reflects not only individual achievement, but also the value of leadership, influence, and service within the wider marine science community.
