I am a post-doctoral researcher in the Wheeler group at the Marine Biological Association with expertise in molecular biology and microbiology. I began my research career at the University of Leeds, where I undertook my PhD investigating cyanophages, infectious to filamentous species of cyanobacteria. This led to being involved in projects studying viruses infectious to the globally important algae, Gephyrocapsa huxleyi, and the role this virus plays in the termination of algal blooms. During my career, I have also devoted a significant amount of time to the study of single-stranded RNA viruses, infectious to honey bees, focussing on deformed wing virus dynamics in honey bee colonies.

In recent years, my research has shifted focus to the study of microalgae, and I am currently researching how phytoplankton overcome carbon limitation in the ocean through the investigation of carbon concentrating mechanisms.
