Ellie Murphy

Ellie is a SWBio PhD student funded by the BBSRC and supervised by Dr Glen Wheeler and Prof Colin Brownlee at the MBA and Prof Alistair Hetherington and Dr Imogen Sparkes at the University of Bristol. She is investigating the evolution and role of TRP channels in Phaeodactylum tricornutum. Additionally, Ellie will use the Mesolens microscope to explore the spatial coordination of stress responses in diatom populations. She will also be determining how calcium signalling in stomatal guard cells is coordinated across a leaf in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Ellie graduated from the University of Bristol with a first in BSc (Hons) Biology. Her practical project focused on the involvement of ABA in dark-induced stomatal closure in A. thaliana, supervised by Prof Alistair Hetherington.
