Joanna Harley
Joanna is a Research Technician on the Darwin Tree of Life Project Their roles include collection and processing of a broad range of marine organisms for genome sequencing, nucleic acid extraction and barcoding, and cultivation of microalgae. They are additionally assisting researchers in the Cunliffe group on the MYCO-CARB project.
Joanna conducted two projects as part of their MSci Marine Biology at the University of Southampton, these investigated the relationship between climate indices and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) population dynamics and behaviour and developing tools for genetic engineering of the microalga Nannochloropsis gaditana. Since then they have worked as a molecular biologist and field assistant in the Ocean Technology and Engineering Group at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton. They have also previously researched bioremediation using synthetic microbial communities at the University of Sheffield.
