Cordelia is an NERC ARIES PhD student looking at the functional biology and ecology of aquatic fungi in the Cunliffe Lab joint with the MBA and University of Plymouth. Her PhD will focus on characterising the molecular machinery of aquatic fungi and inferring their role in the aquatic environment, particularly their role in marine carbon cycling. She will also be looking at their interactions with marine snow particles which are important in the biological carbon pump of the oceans. Her PhD will combine the use of model systems in the lab and environmental sampling, to test working hypotheses. She previously worked on fungi as part of her MRes looking at the interactions between aquatic fungi and bacteria on model particulate organic matter, using a model fungus, which was conducted here at the MBA.
