Jade graduated from Exeter University with a 2:1 in Bsc (Hons) Biosciences with a specialism in Microbiology and Infectious Disease. Her final year wet lab. project focussed on Vibrio parahaemolyticus and its transition into, and resuscitation from, the Viable Non Culturable (VBNC) state as well creating knockout mutants to investigate the role of two putative VBNC genes, Lon and FlaA.
She will be working closely with Andrea Highfield as a Research Technician, assisting in her research on RNA viruses infecting honeybees by undertaking RNA extractions and running quantitative PCR screens for a novel virus. She will also be working on the haptophyte transformation project, sub-culturing algae, PCR screening of potential transformants and generating plasmids.
