Dan leads the MBA IT and Data Teams and is project co-ordinator for DASSH; the MEDIN accredited Data Archive Centre (DAC) for biodiversity data. Dan has over 20 years experience in the creation and management of biological databases and their analysis using geospatial tools.
Dan is a member of the global Ocean Biogeographic Information System Steering Group, and leads the UK contribution through the UK OBIS Node hosted at the MBA.
He has worked with the NBN to test and develop Web services using XML and SOAP technologies, and MEDIN on the development of their metadata standard and schema. Dan is a member of the MEDIN DAC, Portal and Standards Working Groups. Dan led the team that undertook the largest collation of species and habitats data in the UK as part of the Defra/JNCC-led MB0102 contract to provide datalayers to support the MCZ designation process.
More recently Dan has led projects relating to the data collation, review and standards development for marine social and economic data in the UK, and leads the MBA's technical contribution to EMODnet Biology, ASSEMBLE+ and EMBRC.
