Finding Items

Once you have a list of references, the following instructions should help you find the item(s) you require

Finding Serials/ Journals

  1. The serials list can be consulted as an alphabetical list in hard copy in the library (red folders) or searched online.
  2. The serials list entry will give volume and location information e.g.:

    Marine Ecology Progress Series
    CH 1-;  1979-
    /SE.X:29/

The library holds this serial from Volume 1, 1979 up to the present day and the shelfmark tells you where to find the serial in the library.
  3. There is a map on the wall on each floor of the library to check the physical location of the shelf mark that you require.
  4. The online serials list will also tell you if a journal is available electronically. Click on "See Electronic Journals". This will take you to the electronic journals page where you can check if access is available to the issue you require.
  5. If an item is missing please ask a member of staff for assistance as they should be able to retrieve items that are on loan.
  6. If we do not appear to have the serial/journal, it is worth checking the Libweb database in case we hold a reprint or it has been published in another form.

Finding Books

  1. Search the Libweb database from any computer in the laboratory.
  2. You can also apply for a password for remote access to Libweb.
  3. If you are in the library you can search the Libweb database available on the computer on the first floor in the library.
  4. Books are shelved in the reception area, except for books in the pollution collection which are located on the top floor.
  5. There are 'X' shelves for large books, check these as well.
  6. If an item is missing please ask a member of staff for assistance as they should be able to retrieve items that are on loan.
