Latin name: Asterina gibbosa

A small starfish (Echinoderm)


Key Features

  • Small, plump, cushion-like with 5 short arms up to 5 cm across.
  • Skin rough, with projecting spines.
  • Often orange colouration around edge of arms .
  • Can be olive green, brown, orange or blueish.

Where to look:

In rockpools, under boulders on the lower shore.

Effects of warming sea:

Will become more widespread.
