John is helping to deliver the ‘Life on the Yealm’ project which is recording the Natural Heritage of the Yealm Estuary, and he will be responsible for organising a programme of events including a BioBlitz, training, surveys and talks for the local community and schools.
John lives on the Yealm in Newton Ferrers and is a District Councillor on South Hams District Council for which he presently represents the Council on the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership Committee. He became heavily involved in developing the Newton and Noss Neighbourhood Plan, taking on the responsibility for assessing and designating Local Green Spaces. He also represents his local Parish Council on the Yealm Estuary Management Group.
He has a PhD from the University of Edinburgh in renewable energy systems and has over 25 years of experience campaigning and taking action on climate change and environmental issues. He has worked as a climate change campaigner with Friends of the Scotland and has been the Chief Operations Officer and Director of several environment-focused companies.
