Roger joined the merchant navy in 1969 and since then his working life has been based in and around the sea. He owned and operated his own fishing vessel, The Chistiana, for nearly 10 years and has over 30 years’ experience in commercial fishing.
Roger moved into the marine research vessel sector in 2007 and has worked as a skipper (and other roles) with Exeter University, Plymouth Marine Laboratories and now at the Marine Biological Association.
Through hiswork with research vessels, he gained an insight into marine life and science at sea. He is currently the Skipper of the MBA Sepia and part of the MBA’s sea-going team, where he continues to use his fishing expertise to advise scientists on fishing equipment to help achieve their research requirements.
