Prof Phil Rainbow is the Marine Biological Association Governor representing the Zoological Society. He is Head of the Life Sciences Department at the Natural History Museum, with major research interests in the marine biology of trace metals, having published more than 230 peer-reviewed publications including 7 co-edited books and two jointly authored books. He obtained a PhD (1975) and DSc (1994) from the University of Wales, spending the first part of his academic career as lecturer, reader and professor at Queen Mary, University of London. In 1997 he was appointed Keeper of Zoology, the Head of the Department of Zoology, at the NHM, and in 2012 became the Head of Life Sciences after an internal reorganization of NHM science.
