How do I?

Keyword Searches

How do I search for keywords?

Type a key word from the title e.g. limnology into the keyword search box and click on the SEARCH button. 

How do I narrow down the search?

If you want to narrow down the search, type two key words into the keyword search box, joined with * which means AND.
e.g. to find a serial called "limnology and oceanography" type in limnology*oceanography.

How do I use OR and NOT in a search?  

As well as using * for AND, you can also use + for OR and ^ for NOT
e.g. to find serials with "bulletin" or "boletim" in the title type in bulletin+boletim

How do I use Truncation?

To search e.g. fish only, leave the tick in the box "Exact match of words". Removing the tick from this box means typing in fish will retrieve serial titles containing fish, fishery and fisheries.

How do I search by Country of Publication?

Type in a country e.g. France and click on the SEARCH button.

Can I search by Keyword and by Country?

Yes. To search by Keyword and Country, e.g. to find bulletins published in China, type bulletin into the keyword search box and China into the country search box. Make sure AND is selected from the radio buttons below the keyword search field. 

How do I search by ISSN?

Type in an ISSN e.g. 1238-5328. Not all records have ISSN information so if no results are found it's worth searching by title as well.

General Information

  • If you do not know what to enter as a search term, click on the LIST button. This will give you a list of keywords, countries or ISSNs where you can select relevant terms.
  • All results appear in alphabetical order
