Full Annual Membership
The Association currently has about 1000 members, the majority from the UK, Europe and North America.
Membership of the MBA entitles you to the following:
- Welcome pack for members
- Twice-yearly MBA newsletter - keeping you up-to-date with news of events and staff
- MBA Annual Report and MBA Research Summary Twice-yearly JMBA Global marine environment magazine - a broader audience publication. See a previouse issue
- Significantly reduced subscription for the Journal of the Marine Biological Association; choice of on-line or printed journal, or both
- 20% discounts with major publishers; Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press and the Eurospan Group - details shortly to appear online, via the new 'Members Only' area.
- Significant membership discounts (20%) for training courses, conferences and publications
- Reduced fees for courses at the Marine Life & Environmental Sciences Resource Centre and for conferences where the MBA is organiser or sponsor. View details
- Regular email notifications of courses, events and job vacancies (if requested).
- Opportunity to attend and contribute to Plymouth-based research seminars (notified by e-mail if requested);
- MBA Science Lecture linked to the AGM meeting with high profile speaker or hot topic.
- Opportunity to access one week's bench space at the Laboratory at the MBA Director's discretion. Where special facilities are required then this will also be at the Director's discretion and may incur a charge.
- Free use of the National Marine Biological Library for non-commercial purposes.

Subscribing to the journal provides access to the digital archive; issues published between 1887-1998 now online as high-resolution, searchable PDFs. Currently, Members subscribing to the journal also receive free access to the Marine Biodiversity Records, which is an exciting new title that serves as an online complement to its sister publication, the JMBA.

Membership is available to all students registered in full time University education, including PhD studies.

Corporate membership of the MBA is available to universities, corporations and other organisations with an interest in the marine sciences, with the following entitlements:
- Subscription to the Journal of the Marine Biological Association (JMBA, eight issues per year)
- £400 - print-only journal subscription (normally £858 plus VAT)
- £425 - print & online journal subscription (normally £988 plus VAT)
- £360 - online-only journal subscription (normally £822 plus VAT)
Subscribing to the journal provides access to the digital archive; issues published between 1887-1998 now online as high-resolution, searchable PDFs. Currently, Members subscribing to the journal also receive free access to the Marine Biodiversity Records, which is an exciting new title that serves as an online complement to its sister publication, the JMBA.
Discounts are available for non-OECD countries, charities and SMES (but with reduced benefits).
Monthly issues of Marine Pollution Research Titles - the Library's publication listing references on all aspects of marine pollution. Each issue will be available online. (UK subscription normally £120 for electronic, £140 for print, for 2009).
A copy of Estuaries and Coastal Waters of the British Isles - the Library's annual bibliography of references on all aspects of the marine science of British waters (normally £45 for 2009)
Free use of the Library by academic bodies and by non-academic bodies for up to one week per year (normally £50 per week plus VAT).
Access to Library databases at the discretion of the Librarian.
One hours free literature searching undertaken by a professional member of Library staff. Additional searching will incur a fee.
A discount on registration fees for the Corporate Member's staff attending MBA scientific meetings.
Discounted rates for undergraduate, postgraduate and other specialist courses organised by the Association at Citadel Hill and elsewhere.
Discounted rates for hire of the Marine Life and Environmental Sciences Resource Centre.
Discounted rates for the hire of MBA Sepia
A copy of the MBA Annual Report.
A copy of the MBA Newsletter (two issues per year).
A copy of JMBA Global Marine Environment magazine (two issues per year)
Services available at an additional charge:
- Remote access to library catalogue.
- Document delivery for private study or non-commercial research.
Photocopying facilities are available. For photocopying for private study or non-commercial research, cards (£4 for 60 copies) are sold from a vending machine which only takes £1 coins. If your copies are for commercial purposes, you should contact the library staff in order to buy a licence for the copy.
