Topics/Skills:

Introduction:

A literacy based activity which can be used to reinforce lessons about marine species, or as follow up to a shore or aquarium visit.

Location:

Materials:

Day in the Life Worksheet, non-fiction books, access to internet, drawing/ writing equipment.

Relevance and Aims:

Running the Activity:

The activity works best following a visit to a marine habitat or aquarium, however it may also be a good activity to follow a science lesson about marine habitats or even watching a film about marine species. Ask the group to imagine they are a sea creature. They must research the creature using the internet (for example: www.marlin.ac.uk) or non-fiction books. You can use the attached worksheet or ask students to illustrate their own pieces of writing linking the work with art and design. The pieces could also be written on the computer to include and ICT element to the work.
